was the first album I listened to and I absolutely loved it from the start, and then I started listening to their entire catalogue until then and they quickly became one of my favourite artists ever and a huge part of my teenage years' soundtrack I remember that when those albums came out I checked record stores every few days to see if they received their copies of Inni, Valtari, and Kveikur! They're still one of the artists I listen to the most, and ( ), Valtari, Ágætis byrjun and Takk. I was specifically in a phase when I listened to lots of extreme metal, but I also listened to other genres and of course I started checking for Icelandic artists - Björk, Emiliana Torrini, Seabear, Múm, and I obviously could not pass on Sigur Rós. Back then I was a middle school kid who had a fascination with Iceland and another with non-mainstream music. I am from Italy and I started listening to Sigur Rós around late 2008/early 2009, when I was 12. It definitely eases my stress going into the weekend. It was amazing to hear from so many people from all across the world! Thank you for making my day. SR helps me a great deal with anxiety and stress. Where do you live and how did you discover Sigur Rós?Įdit: My work keeps me very busy and is very tedious. Since then Sigur Rós has been an important part of my life ,and Ágætis byrjun is my go to album for all occasions. Kveikur was the most exciting release I've waited for. Then came the exploration of the classics Ágætis byrjun, Takk., ( ) and the rest just fell into place. It was on listening to Ég anda on the television (thanks to national geographic music) that I realised that this band was special. Sadly, this was not when I first took real notice of the band. On Sunday a special edition of the newspaper was printed with a dedicated music column authored by a gentleman named Sanjoy Narayan. It was back in 2012 when I first heard about Sigur Rós in a music review column in the newspaper.

When I was growing up, it was even worse. Exposure to international artists is quite limited unless you live in big cities or actively look to discover music on the interwebs. I am from India and while we have a rich culture of traditional music, mainstream music in the country is one dimensional. So here I am with my experience of discovering Sigur Rós. As sad as it is, music does not reach everyone equally. It's always interesting to know how you discovered music and your first reaction to it.
